Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez to Visit India for High-Level Talks on Energy, Trade and Strategic Cooperation

Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez will visit India from June 3-7 with a high-level ministerial delegation for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions will focus on energy, trade, investment, healthcare, renewable energy and strategic cooperation as both nations seek to deepen a partnership built over 65 years of diplomatic relations.

Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez is set to undertake a working visit to India from June 3 to June 7, marking another significant chapter in the longstanding relationship between the two nations. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which confirmed that the visit will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

Rodriguez was initially scheduled to travel to India to participate in the International Big Cats Alliance Summit on June 1. However, the summit was subsequently deferred, leading to the rescheduling of her visit.

Addressing a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Venezuelan leader would be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several senior ministers. The delegation will include the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, Communication and Information, and Transportation.

Jaiswal highlighted Rodriguez’s longstanding engagement with India, noting that she has visited the country on multiple occasions in different official capacities. He stated that Rodriguez first visited India as Venezuela’s Foreign Minister in 2015 and later as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The upcoming visit will be her sixth official visit to India, underscoring her enduring association with the country.

The Venezuelan delegation is also expected to visit several sites as part of the official programme.

India and Venezuela share a history of warm and friendly relations, supported by similar perspectives on major international, political and economic issues. The partnership extends beyond bilateral engagement, with both countries maintaining active cooperation in various multilateral forums.

The two nations commemorated the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024. Resident embassies have been functioning in Caracas and New Delhi for more than four decades, reflecting the depth and continuity of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Rodriguez’s visit comes at a time when both nations are seeking to expand strategic and economic cooperation, particularly in sectors of mutual interest. The high-level discussions are expected to reinforce a partnership that has evolved steadily over the decades and pave the way for enhanced collaboration in the years ahead.
